Dubai's excellent museum is housed in the Al-Fahidi Fort, built in 1787 to defend Dubai Creek. The fort's walls are built out of traditional coral-blocks and held together with lime. The upper floor is supported by wooden poles, and the ceiling is constructed from palm fronds, mud, and plaster.

In its history, the fort has served as a residence for the ruling family, a seat of government, garrison, and prison. Restored in 1971 (and again extensively in 1995), it is now the city's premier museum. The entrance has a fascinating exhibition of old maps of the Emirates and Dubai, showing the mammoth expansion that hit the region after the oil boom. The courtyard is home to several traditional boats and a palm-leaf house with an Emirati wind-tower. The rig ... Read more »

Traveling is something that my wife and I really enjoy.

We often take a trip and try to tick off things from our bucket list. So when this time we started wanderlusting , we knew where we wanted to go. Singapore has been on our list for a very long time. We wanted to visit a first world country, hence Singapore seemed like the best option under the budget we had thought of. We disclosed our plan of traveling to Singapore with my sister-in-law and she too was game to go on this adventure for us and we couldn’t be happier. We knew who we wanted to contact for the trip. We go in touch with TravelTriangle and soon they were ready with a perfect itinerary for us and we were ready for our Singapore trip from Mumbai.

Just outside Al Bustan Palace Hotel, opposite the imposing parliament buildings, a small roundabout is home to Sohar, a boat named after the hometown of the famous Omani seafarer Ahmed Bin Majid. The boat (a replica of one sailed by Abdullah Bin Gasm in the mid-8th century to Guangzhou, China) was built in the dhow yards of Sur from the bark of more than 75,000 palm trees and four tonnes of rope. Not a single nail was used in the construction. British adventurer Tim Severin is a renowned historian and travel writer who spent a lifetime retracing legendary voyages to determine if they were practically feasible. He engaged a crew of Omani sailors to sail Sohar to Guangzhou in 1980. The journey of 6000 nautical miles took eight months to complete and helped prove that the mythical t ... Read more »

Another popular fort to visit is the 17th-century Nizwa Fort with its massive circular tower which you can climb for views of the mosque, souq, distant rocky mountains, and the date palms that surround this oasis city.

Nizwa Fort has recently been refurbished and there are now historical items on display like jewellery, tools, and a timeline of the area’s history. You can also watch women making crafts and baking bread over an open fire. Look out for the murder holes here too.
